Review on CTA Tools 7643 Crankshaft Removal by Adam Abner

Almost Perfect

This tool works great when you are changing the front seal because it is leaking. If the drive belt has failed and wrapped itself around the crank and is causing a leak, chances are the gasket has moved back towards the timing chain a little. In this case, the threads of this tool will not engage the gasket tight enough to pull it out because the bolt head on the crankshaft will touch the inside underside of the tool before the threads fully engage the gasket. The tool needed to be 10mm deeper and that would be perfect. Even with this problem, the tool is still the best on the market for the job. The quality and material are excellent and the design concept is perfect. The tool designer needs to remove the seal in the real world and this problem will be solved. I sent my tools to the machine shop and they drilled a hole in the bottom which also removed the threaded nut from the top. It cost me $30. I then welded the machined original nut to a 1/4" thick washer and re-welded this assembly to the removal tool. It also works great on engines with the gasket in place.
