This is a great locking chain to intimidate my bike thief. It scares me, the owner, mainly because it weighs nine pounds two ounces, but that's fine if you don't plan to travel far with it. Carrying it seems much better than carrying it in a backpack as it distributes the weight centrally when carried. The key locks and unlocks the mechanism very easily - nothing sticks or jams. The chain is 63 inches long. The lock subtracts an inch from each end, but adds another three inches to the length itself. Thus, the total usable length is about 64 inches. The lock is by far the thickest part, measuring about 1 ¾" x 2" in cross section. When you remove the keyhole dust cover it is about 1 ½ inches thick. The cloth sleeve on the chain has been criticized in previous reviews. Now it is securely connected to the chain at both ends with heavy-duty rubber boots.
