Works great when plugged directly into the computer's wireless card antenna.

Connected directly to my laptop's WiFi card (not my router) with the appropriate adapter cable/connector (replacing one of the laptop's two built-in antenna ports on the WiFi card) and it works great! Use the signal strength software to optimize your Yagi guidance. I use the hidden Mac command "airport" in the terminal with the s parameter in a loop (google it), but you can use other software as well. I use this antenna in a window on a swivel tripod. I drilled and tapped a 1/4-20 hole in the mounting plate to mechanically connect the threads for mounting the camera on a tripod (and drilled a larger hole in the square tube to allow the camera mounting screw to go over the mounting plate can protrude). . I did not use the U-bolts that came with it. Thought I might need a balun, but no. Experiment with horizontal/vertical polarization by rotating the antenna along the axis on the tripod. Very happy with the significantly increased signal strength with this 2.4GHz WiFi directional antenna! Although this antenna is designed for outdoor use, the extra strength makes it very strong and durable for indoor use. An amazing increase in performance for a passive solution without the need for an active amplifier.
