Review on 🌾 Highly Efficient Northern Brewer Hullwrecker 2-Roller Grain Mill: Metal Base and Handle for Optimal Grinding Performance by Wendy Washington

Revainrating 3 out of 5

OK, but not perfect.

First of all, this product probably deserves 4 stars, but I'll admittedly give 3 stars in the hope that the manufacturer can give me some guidance if my main complaint stems from user error. If my complaint is actually a defect, then so be it. So I'm glad I now have my own windmill. And this one works pretty well. Keeping the latitude at 0.375 and using a BIAB brewer, I now have a consistent mash efficiency of around 82%. (Increased from 72 to 75%) There are a few issues preventing it from being awarded 5 stars. Least importantly, the black rubber/plastic cover covering the rim of the funnel is VERY easy to remove. Every time I move the windmill, the piece of rubber pops out. Maybe I could glue it, but it's not necessary. Biggest Complaint: There are large gaps at the bottom of the grain bin, on either side of the rollers. So, when filling the grain bin, an annoying amount of unground grain falls into the bucket. Does this affect my overall accumulation rate? no Is it inefficient and wasteful? Yes! I'd like to think that this is a custom build error, but I really don't see how I could close this gap based on how everything fits together. This would be less of a problem if the bin could hold more than 7 pounds of grain. Because once the grain settles, it closes those gaps and prevents more grain from falling down. (Provided you don't bump or push anything). However, most of my grain bills are £9-12. So most of the time I have to grind the first batch of grain and then reload the hopper, causing more losses. In the case of basic grains, this is probably not a problem. Wasting specialty grains can compromise the recipe. Overall I am happy with my purchase. I just think everyone should be aware of these issues.
