Review on Authentic Kaimei Sumi Ink 180 Ml - Premium Japanese Import for Artists and Calligraphers by Lisa Lord

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for my beginner calligraphy!

I've spent the last few months talking to Dr. F. Martin's ink to use for calligraphy. After switching to this one - the difference is HUGE! I usually had to dip the pen into each line about 3-4 times because of the (thickness/quick drying?) ink and wipe the pen thoroughly after each line. With this sumi ink, I can finish almost an entire line without re-dipping, and I don't have to wipe the pen after each line. I understand that Indian ink and sumi ink are apples for oranges, but for practicing letterforms these inks are ideal. Big quantity, cheap price and elegant enough not to upset noobs. What's even more convenient is that you have a nozzle cover that doesn't drip, which is amazing. The only negative thing I see is the smell. You will either love it or hate it. The first inhale made me feel disgusted and thought it was a weird diaper smell. Don't ask me how, but now all I can smell as I write is the earthy smell of wet earth infused with eucalyptus oil. I actually find it very enjoyable!
