Was upset to learn it's a must have when ordering the Surco Safari Rack. Mine was for a Ford Excursion and although it pleases for its looks and features (except for a 7ft lift to get there). before), it works fine. Surco Safari clearly states when ordering that nothing else is needed, so I had to wait another week. until I was able to install it properly. Oh and ps no need to order a spare tire carrier. This is a simple mod, just drill a hole in the center bar and thread in an eye hook bolt and tighten with a nut and washer tighten the bracket you just what was drilled.
