Review on ☕ OXO Brew Uplift Tea Kettle Anniversary Edition - Brushed Stainless Steel by Christie Santos

Revainrating 4 out of 5

GREAT kettle but maybe a few lemons in a bunch

This is by far my favorite kettle I've ever had; nice weight, unique look and design help me remember to use the whistle so I don't forget my water is boiling. I have had the brushed stainless steel/cork handle version for several years and it has shown no signs of rusting or wear despite being used multiple times a day on my glass top range. Then there was an unfortunate incident with the original recently; The guest didn't bother to check if there was water left in the kettle and turned the stove on full power under the empty kettle, then left the room and forgot until he smelled burnt. The pot looked like it was on fire - it almost turned black and the cork darkened, but didn't catch fire (I had no idea it could be THAT heat resistant). The silicone seal around the lid even melted. I thought the pot was broken and immediately ordered the exact same one, although I noticed that morning that there were comments in the Revain reviews about the weak whistle. This wasn't my experience at all, so I figured the reviewers mentioning "anemic whistling" might have a much bigger house than mine. The new kettle I received looked exactly like my first one but I was shocked when I used it to see that when it was producing steam it was constantly spouting water out of the closed spout lid and the whistling was so faint that there was none possibility I would have heard it outside the kitchen. In fact, even the sound of steaming/boiling water was significantly louder than the whistle that came with it. The whistle function was essentially useless on this replacement. I reported it to Amazon as 'defective' and they immediately sent me a replacement and free shipping to send the weak whistler back. I got a new one today and I'm happy to report that it's just as good as the original. no splashing water from the spout and a whistle as loud as the original - not obtrusively annoying, but loud enough that I could hear it anywhere in the house, even in the attic or basement while it was whistling downstairs. So I would recommend anyone reporting an anemic whistle to return it for a replacement as everything about the design works great on my first and third OXO Uplift Kettle.

Pros
  • Quality stainless steel and zinc construction resists rusting
Cons
  • Legacy model
