First thing, battery choice. This light demands to be used with a li-ion 3.7v 14500 battery. A regular AA just doesn't have the oomph to get it to perform as it should.This light is almost impossibly bright for it's size - it rivals flashlights I have that use 18650's even. The battery life isn't great under it's brightest settings, but all night power isn't what this thing is about. Walking your dog, finding something you dropped in the dark, or just knowing you have a good light with you without the weight.It's worth it. My only regret with mine is that I dropped it from my tree stand while hunting, and couldn't find it again, so I had to buy another.
