I bought this because I needed to load kayaks into my short tundra. The whole assembly was easy, installation took less than an hour. The drilling template is slightly next to it. Part of this could be due to having the spray on the feed, the other part would not be affected. I recommend assembling it according to the instructions, reading the instructions to understand how to assemble it, and then drilling the brackets freehand. Mine is 3/16" too low so it won't sit perfectly flat. This is important because if it doesn't lay flat the tailgate may not close properly when the extension folds into the bed. When properly installed the bumpers should at the bottom of the extension sit squarely on the plastic lip of the tailgate when it is down and it should be level Too far or too close to the tailgate lip and you cannot close it when the extension is down.
