Review on ๐Ÿšด 2-Pack Continental Grand Prix 5000 Bike Tires by Brandon Skeet

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not as puncture proof as Continental claims

I really wanted to love these tires but I'm not sure I'm willing to pay for them. I put a new 25mm kit on my bike earlier this year and wrecked the rear tire in less than 40 miles. Something went through the tyre, including the Vectran anti-puncture layer. My previous tires (another make/model no longer made) used Kevlar and ran over 3,000 miles without a flat - only 3 or 4 flats in 20,000 miles. (It's nice to replace tires that are actually worn out, rather than wearing out.) Maybe it was a fluke, and I'd puncture any tire, but the GP5000 doesn't seem to be as good as advertised. On the plus side, in my very limited experience, the tire is very supple and smooth. They were easy to install (as I was able to verify on the side of the road). They look great with minimal graphics. Maybe with Continental sponsorship I could get a replacement to comment on the tread wear. UPDATE: I patched the hole from the inside and swapped front and rear tires. I've now driven the tires a little over 300 miles and have had 2 more flats (attached pic of today's puncture of glass cut through tire). So 3 apartments for 300 miles. by far the most brittle tires I have ever driven. I know quite a few people who have ridden over 1000 miles with no problems. maybe my cheap fakes or maybe there are quality control issues. I don't want to buy another set to find out.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • I won't say anything
