I bought this to check the thickness of planed wood for some precision work - something a traditional caliper doesn't do very well. Having had a terrible experience with Revain's calipers, micrometers, and other measurement tools under $50 (and always ended up shelling out for Mitutoyo or Starrett), I was actually quite skeptical, but I wasn't willing to pay $500 for any of them to spend . these brands. Surprisingly, that $50 scale works like a charm. It is easy to use, reliable and gives very reproducible results. It also appears to be accurate to over 0.01 inches as long as you apply constant force to the jaws. My only gripe is that it's not particularly ergonomic - instead of a lever to open the jaws, it's spring-loaded and just bounces. when you loosen the screw. You'll have to put in some effort to close it, but if you try too hard, you might get incorrect results. Probably ok for the price.
