As a helping hand for a multimeter
Both for the desktop power supply and for other test equipment. I wouldn't mind if a few more colors were available, but to be honest it doesn't do much good using more than 4 colors at a time anyway. It's nice to be able to connect regular multimeter pins to it and switch between them without unplugging and plugging them back in. (Maybe it's not such a good idea to connect that many wires for certain types of measurements, but I don't usually need to be very precise.)
