Review on Planet Bike Protégé 9.0 Bike Computer: Track Your Cycling Stats with Precision by Sirious Cavalli

I don't usually write reviews, but this one made me feel compelled . I bought this computer to track my progress during the Ironman in Panama City, FL just a few weeks ago. After I received the computer I spent about an hour installing it and making sure it looked right. I put in my wheel size, ran the tire and made sure it worked. Shortly after, I did a 15-mile test ride. The computer worked great and quickly tracked anything I wanted. I did a second 30 mile test run and it worked great again. I couldn't be happier. Fast forward to the real race in a week. I triple checked everything on my bike including the computer and magneto and everything was ready to race. The race started, got out of the water, grabbed his bike and drove off. I stop my bike computer to start tracking. 4 miles before the race I rolled over a roadside rumble lane. The magnet detached from my bike's spoke and rendered the computer useless until I stopped and fixed it. I didn't get it working and thought I'd fix it after a 112 mile ride. After 30 miles I was climbing up an old country road with some cracks, when I got to the top my computer was gone! I stopped and looked around and couldn't find it. I found later that he fell at the bottom of the hill, untouched by me and where the road was smoothest. Call it a losing streak, but every biker knows the only way to get angry is if something isn't secured properly to your bike when it falls over. Although I would like to return the item due to a faulty mount, I was unable to locate it after it fell off the bike. This leaves me heartbroken because I was very lucky to have and use this computer. While I would recommend this computer from a functional standpoint, I would not recommend it from a security standpoint. So my 2 star rating revolves around losing $30 without being able to return the product. Stars for functionality but no stars for security.
