Review on 🏠 H995RICAT Air Tite Remodel Housing - Shallow Depth by Josh Flanagan

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Great price but poor quality

These remanufactured tins are very cheap but paper thin. White cans for the Halo remake in large boxes are much sturdier. I don't think these lenses will work on my repair, so they sit unused in the box. I really wanted them to work because of the price. The Leviton L3R can is significantly better quality with a thicker can - it also works with LEDs, halogens, wet/humid areas; it is sealed and has an isolating contact (IC). The cost of just one can of Leviton with a rim is higher than the cost of several such Halo cans. Leviton isn't perfect, but it's good enough. Leviton has almost the same edge clip mechanism but works a little better. Halo or Leviton, it is best to position the mount exactly the same way the first time as the second attempt to reattach the mount will not be as easy. Mounting strength and enclosure thickness are important in part due to the weight and leverage on the enclosure from the attached junction box and any wiring. Often these lights have an NM-B inlet and outlet, adding to the weight and leverage that the lip of the can must support. The hole must fit snugly in the body. The fragile body just doesn't inspire confidence. Bottom line, it's too much work for me to risk ceiling light problems to use such thin bodies. I settled on the Leviton L3R and various fairings not fully available from the Revain dealer. A large utility company in the Portland area had a full supply of trim and accessories. It's probably worth looking for other flashlights that have better mounting options. If you're very experienced and willing to tinker with it more, or if the back is accessible from the attic, saving these cans might work for you.
