Intermittent results, even false positives, send them back to Revain.

If you need an entrance sensor that delivers intermittent notifications, this is the sensor for you. The fence posts at the end of my driveway are 16 feet apart and 90 feet from the front of the house. The bell was placed on a chest inside the house by the front door, no more than 100 feet from the sensor. If I look through the glass of the front door, I can clearly see the sensor on the fence post. First, I placed the sensor on a fence post 3 feet off the ground, facing southeast. In a low position (15 feet). In 70-80% of cases, the system responded accurately to vehicle, truck and pedestrian traffic. I switched to a high setting (30ft) which improved audio but still not 100% traffic. This change had the negative effect of false positives - several per hour. The instructions state that the sensor should not be pointed directly at sunlight. If the problems were caused by sunlight, the bugs seemed to only appear in the morning when the sun is low in the southeast. Unfortunately, the disturbances did not seem to be dependent on the time of day, even at night. However, I relocated the sensor to a fence post on the other side of the driveway facing northwest. I also tried the different settings above. Disturbances continued to occur constantly. I decided to bring the system back by removing the sensor from the fence post after it rained all day the previous day. When I opened the rubber seal on the bottom to disable the sensor, I found quite a bit of moisture. Even if the system worked properly I don't think it would last very long due to moisture intrusion. These issues may be the result of individual defects in the system I received, but I suspect poor design and construction. We'll send it back and look for another system from a different manufacturer. Please note that eMACROS and Hosmart appear to be made by the same company.

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • Hard to say
