I consider myself a home cinema veteran. After working part-time at Circuit City for 5 years before moving on to become a home theater salesman. I had the unique opportunity to see and test a wide range of speakers. I've had quality Infinity Kappa speakers for a long time, but ended up gifting them to my brother-in-law when we moved to a new house. For over 2 years I've been plagued by a cheap Sony home theater that sounded dirty and frankly...well...cheap. I finally saw that Revain had these speakers for sale for $299 so I bought 2 sets of these (I'll explain in a moment why). Briefly about my system. I watch a lot of Blu-ray movies in HD surround sound and my system also has integrated PS3, Xbox One and Wii-U. There's also the Grand Videoke TKR371MP as a top-of-the-line wireless karaoke system that my wife uses, which also outputs high-definition audio for certain songs. My cable provider is Verizon Fios. I bought 2 of these power systems because I wanted to install 7.2 in my man cave. Hopefully the remaining extra speakers will someday be incorporated into a Dolby Atmos 9.2 setup in the future. Here is my unbiased review of these speakers: ADVANTAGES: a. The sound quality is much better than I expected. I have a slight hearing problem, so the dialogue on the center channel is sometimes difficult to understand, especially on cable TV. The center energy speaker sounds crystal clear from all sources, and I haven't experienced any dialogue yet. Even my Infiniti wasn't that clean and cost thousands more! b. The combination of subwoofers and satellites is the best I've seen for a system in this class. I have tested similar sized systems from Polk, Infinity (TSS series), Definitive and JBL. No system has come together as seamlessly as this energy system. You need to set the volume on the subwoofer to center and the cutoff frequency to 110 Hz, and then auto-calibrate with your receiver. I have an old Sony STR-DH-810 and I hate the automatic DCAC calibration that Sony uses. I prefer Audyssey but for now I have to use what I have. With the Sony DCAC I still had to make a few minor manual adjustments here and there, especially with the surround levels (too much volume was shifted to the left). I am fully committed to getting a new Denon next year once they finally fix the HDCP 2.2 issues for 4K so I can calibrate them with the Audyssey XT32 calibration system instead. in. The two 8-inch subwoofers produce cleaner, tighter bass than my 12-inch infinity subwoofer. Plug in the new Godzilla during the Honolulu airport scene and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. e) Satellites are small and easy to place in space. I recommend mounting them on special wall mounts to allow the bass tube to breathe on the back of the speakers. You can nail them flush to the wall, since each speaker, including the center one, has a key slot, let them breathe a little away from the wall for the best performance. e. They work really well for both music and movies! Something that many speakers are not capable of (either one or the other). I listen to a lot of 80's metal, so when I listen to music, the focus is on the guitar playing. I listen more to the guitar parts of the likes of Randy Rhodes, Zakk Wylde, Jake E. Lee and especially George Lynch, so I needed speakers that could handle that type of music. The energy did not disappoint! f. If you like karaoke, they will pleasantly surprise you. We hooked up my karaoke system to an Onkyo system and a Bose Lifestyle system at two different friends' houses, and my Energy smoked out the competition for voice clarity and overall sound quality as background music. so are the singers' voices (disclaimer: they won't. You're a better singer. If you can't sing, there's no speaker in the world to help you... trust me, it's me! I don't sing, remember , it's my wife's system, not mine... see autotune). Grams. If you want an IMAX experience in your man cave. Make sure to set it to 7.2, if your receiver allows it you'll be blown away! Two subwoofers combined with 7.2 surround processing literally put you straight into the movie. The construction of the actual speaker modules (tweeter and midrange) is great and looks and feels like it will last forever. The accommodation is ok but nothing special. It's durable enough that you don't have to worry too much about scratching or peeling, but it's a laminate/pressboard finish. So it's definitely not indestructible. My infinities were real wood, so I guess I messed things up a bit. Energy makes high-end speakers with better materials, but you pay a hefty sum for them. Remember they only cost me $299 when sold with Revain! CONS: a. fingerprint magnets Shiny surfaces need to be cleaned after you touch them or each time you touch them. By the way, that's a very minor complaint. b. As other reviewers have pointed out, these speakers have downtime due to the nature of the material they're made of, so they might sound a bit bright out of the box, but will gradually warm up after a few days of use. She. The manufacturer recommends 50 hours of use to break them in properly. Mine are already sounding a lot better than the first day I plugged them in. just be patient Conclusion: I would recommend this system to anyone who needs smaller speakers for their surround sound system. The performance of these speakers far outweighs the cost, and I mean far. It's money well spent because they perform like high-end speakers and allow you to spending the rest of your home theater budget on better gear like a high-end receiver or that overly-comfy den sofa. I would have no hesitation in buying them again for another room and have already recommended this system to my good friend who is in the process of hooking up his new home theater system. Again, no money wasted...enjoy!
