Review on ✏️ EasyScribe Scribing Tool - Black by Trend E/SCRIBE by Robert Olguin

Great concept; garbage execution; almost useless

I tried three of these before realizing it was a cheap version of what was probably a great prototype. The first one I got had a distinctly bulbous base so the whole thing could wobble up and down if you weren't very careful to hold it on the surface you were drawing. To her credit, the American Trend retailer ended up sending me another one for free. But the adjustment screw on the second only stuck about 1/4 inch after opening, making it unusable. I was still hopeful so I tried to buy again as I haven't received a product functional enough to try it in real life yet. My third Easy Scribe had a flat base and the adjustment screw worked smoothly, so I tried using it and found, like many others, that the slightest working pressure on the hand holding the patented pencil lead causes it to open up and off moves relative to the base. To my surprise, I found that I could easily move it up and down more than 1/4 inch! Absolutely useless. (Pressing directly on the pencil grip seems like the most logical and intuitive way to hold the tool.) Here's the kicker: I've decided to keep it and use it for now! Pro tip: You shouldn't even touch the pen holder when holding the tool. If you do this, the hand will easily deflect and give you a pointless punch. But if you hold the tool carefully, DO NOT touch your hand, and also apply it ONLY to the end of the metal guide blade and not the whole supposedly flat base, the tool can work as advertised and is very handy for smooth scribe lines. for example where the countertop meets the wall or the baseboard meets the floor etc. I would not buy this product again due to the ridiculously low quality. However, the design is outstanding and I would happily pay even more for a properly made version to remove the need for such virtuosic care in use.

Pros
  • good stuff
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
