Mechanical engineer, 38 years old. I've been driving for 44 out of 61 years. I have NEVER heard from a manufacturer that the consumer should apply a small amount of lubricant to the threads of the cap before and after each removal. This indicates that the manufacturer chose the wrong material and coating (if any) to prevent corrosion. Can someone say Minnesota? Undoubtedly, it was a cost-saving measure. Remember that aluminum will still rust. Not as fast and not as severe as iron/steel, but will still corrode. Therefore, a protective coating is required. Other 1 star comments state that the elastomeric seal never fully cures before the stages are down. Perhaps another cost-saving measure and poor production control. Gave them back.
