For the money this is probably as good or a little worse than the stand my Celestron came with. Especially when working at high magnification, the entire plane will shake, move and warp as you move the block up and down. First, the plane of view is distorted before changing focus, making it relatively unusable, or at least frustrating, at high magnification. What you're trying to focus on moves sideways out of frame. Attempting to shoot movies on the go with zoom and focus adjustment just doesn't work. The additional cost of a Dino-Lite tripod greatly increases the cost of a cheaper microscope. The Dino-Lite stand allows you to take full advantage of your upgraded USB microscope. In short, the mechanical tolerances of the device are poor and as they wear they deteriorate rapidly. EDIT: I added a star to the review due to the customer service team returning the price on this product. I tried to get it working for my needs but they got it right. I bought a much more expensive but much more accurate microscope stand. It was very educational to work with their product and I appreciate their support. For kids and people who just want to use something that will improve their USB microscope experience a bit, I'm all for trying it.
