Review on Dorman 419 610 Idler Pulley by Edgar Rowe

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked great, eliminated annoying noise!

Replaced the idler pulley on my '08 Ford Fusion 2.3L. This pulley comes with a gold colored cylinder to match the pulley which I don't intend to use. This pulley can be used on many different vehicles, so a gold cylinder can be useful in some cases. I just reused exactly what was on my old pulley. If you don't, it probably won't align properly. The old pulley had a large concave washer and a thick silver cylinder. Notice how they line up when you peel them off the old one. The concave washer doesn't exactly fit the surface of this new pulley, but that doesn't affect anything. There also had to be a small piece of plastic to keep the silver cylinder from slipping off when it was removed. That was broken for me. This is not required, just make sure the silver cylinder is fully seated in the pulley when installing. Since I didn't have it when I installed it, I was concerned it wouldn't shrink when I tightened it. When I tightened the screw I heard a click and then the screw loosened again so I tightened it further and it tightened again. So that meant the cylinder slid into position and settled. You could probably make a small piece of plastic out of a bottle or something to put in there when you go to install. It doesn't hurt and just stays in the cylinder. Even if you pull it out, the top pull worked for me, albeit a tight fit. Then he set it up as well. In any case, my car has become much quieter! I used a mechanical conical stethoscope to locate the noise. I recommend getting one, they're not even $15. This can save you from replacing unnecessary things.
