Review on πŸš— Motive Gear R8.8RIFSMKT Master Bearing Kit with Timken Bearings for Ford 8.8" IFS Vehicles from 1997 and Up by Robert Norris

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not a complete set as advertised. Go with the Yukon kit.

It was a good set. The marking composition was excellent compared to the composition found in other competitor kits. The bearings are all high quality, as is the gearbox seal. My problems were mainly with seals. The gear pulleys were too few and not thick enough. Eventually I found a combination that produced an acceptable pattern but didn't achieve the desired thickness. A small number between 0.003 and 0.005 would be a nice addition. The carrier's washer pack was missing. Completely missing. I had a torn front end before I discovered it (my fault for not doing a proper parts inventory before starting) and I had to buy a pack of shims at my local auto parts store. There was also no reverse oil deflector. It will be damaged if the gear inner ring is knocked out. This is a Ford or Yukon part only. critical spot. I'm not sure how you call it a core set and doesn't include those two items. Finally, there were no external seals. They give you external bearings but no seals. It doesn't make any manly sense to me since you have to remove (and probably destroy) the seals to get the camp out. In general, this is a normal product. The F150's transmission options were limited compared to my Jeep JKU, so Motive got the nod. Apples to apples I'm feeling another Lime brand that includes both outer seals and a baffle in their kit.

Pros
  • Timken bearings and rings along with quality hardware
Cons
  • Exterior
