I wanted that. We use them to tie our 13-1/2 foot kayak to the roof of our Saturn VUE. Using side to side with some negative space works fine and doesn't come loose, but after attaching it to the roof and bonnet it came loose after about a 5 minute ride. He bounces, and even though we tied the ends, it's still happening. We had to stop twice to re-tighten it, but let it go after the second time. He stopped at his destination for about 30 minutes and didn't fall. I love that they don't scratch our paintwork (the paintwork on our 12 year old SUV is still holding up lol). We have to throw it over our car to get to the other side, so it helps that they're not metal. There are many of these in the pack so maybe those 2 are faulty, we've used them more than once and had this problem but maybe they were the same. I would still recommend them, they are easy to use and durable when there isn't much room to move.
