I got this to replace an old specular microscope and the LED makes your slides look so much brighter. It's a shame that I haven't changed my old microscope for a long time. The glass optics of this microscope are clear and easy to focus. I mostly use a 400x lens. Even at over 1000x magnification I couldn't tell anything else. Perhaps these increases have their merits, but they seemed redundant to me. The smartphone adapter seems a bit useless to me. I've tried it and it works great, but I probably won't use it for anything. If I want to do that, I can just download images from the internet. Maybe I'm too old fashioned for this kind of functionality. The slides supplied with this microscope are premade slides. The microscope did not come with clean slides and covers, so you will need to purchase these separately if you want to do your own experiments. The included slides are interesting and educational, so no big deal. Overall I am very happy with this microscope. It's a little less aquarium-like than my old microscope, but the build quality is good and I'm happy with it. This is a great purchase if you are keeping your kids away from school this year due to COVID-19.
