Review on MICHELIN X-Ice Snow SUV 235/65 R17 108T winter by Mateusz Wodarczyk ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best thing Ive ever used, a great item for everyone!

This review will be ated as I just bought it today. The choice was very difficult, since I have been riding only Nokian studs all my life since the first model. And I have no experience with friction tires. So. Mercedes GLK, I move mainly in the city of St. Petersburg and a little bit around the region. I chose between this rubber and contiviking 7. Conti is already a well-known model and I wanted to buy it. But Michelin won because of the economy, the novelty. A bonus to the tires was a guarantee, free tire fitting and 2022 for gasoline. I also have Michelin summer tires, so I have confidence in the manufacturer. Plus the conti was 2022 and the Michelin was 2022. Reviews of the previous Michelin friction tire were also good and a friend of mine rode the same rubber. At the time of writing this review (10/11/2022), only one Swedish test was released, where rubber took 2nd place, and conti 7th place (together with studded tires). But the result of conti floats too much, so I would not trust the tests. There are no reviews at all, only press releases. For myself, I brought out several arguments when comparing: the conti has better cross-country ability and better braking on bare ice, plus better longitudinal grip on ice. But the Michelin has better performance on wet pavement, braking in snow, better lateral grip, better hydroplaning resistance, predictability. Michelin is slightly harder than conti. The Conti's tread pattern is better on ice, the Michelin's tread pattern is smoother and generally better on wet asphalt and wet snow. Better drainage of water from the contact patch. These conclusions are purely my personal subjective opinion. Moreover, I refused conti in the store and bought a new one. From the first batch. Once you try, then try something really new. For money in my size, parity turned out, and only due to the Michelin share did their tires come out a little cheaper. So far, all scores have been posted in advance. I arrived only 20 km. Tires manufactured in China at the beginning of June 2022.

Pros
  • Quiet, soft, pleasant move. Quite a different feeling compared to a studded tire. Quieter than summer, but not much. In my size R17 the tire is lighter than the contiviking 7. Well balanced.
Cons
  • The rubber hasn't been broken in yet. There is a slight howl after 60 km/h and as the speed increases, the howl increases. But the higher the speed, the higher the tone of the howl. On braking, the tone of the howl becomes lower. Sluggish response to the steering wheel on dry pavement at +10. 2 wheels during tire fitting had to be pumped up with an explosive booster. Soft side. Perceptible hydroplaning compared to the studded nokian.
