I've looked at just about every apple slicer available from Revain and chose this one because (1) it cuts fruit into 12 (not 8) slices that have a much better size in my opinion; and (2) it had a fairly high average rating and had no more horror movie reviews than any of the others (virtually all have at least a one-star review with a broken knife and a bloody hand!). I've always been a little wary of this now as I'm afraid of cutting my hand and it's true that it doesn't feel hard enough to just smack it on an apple, but it works great if you only have 5 seconds need for cutting. I had no complaints at all. I don't think it's too spicy, but I haven't had much trouble slicing apples so far, and it works with any large apples available at my grocery store. Cleaning is easy. Conclusion: don't put everything on it at once and I think it's great! :)
