Review on Makita VC4210L Gallon Filter Extractor by Victor Kakaruk

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's a dust collector!

I love this extractor! This is one of the best I've used! The hose and cord storage is fantastic, as well as the ability to add additional lockable drawers to store gear, hose accessories, bags, filters and more. Big rubber wheels roll great! This concept eludes most manufacturers of shop vacuum cleaners and dedusters. There are 3 small parts that need to be fitted once it arrives. You need torx bits (T20-T25, I don't remember exactly) for 2 of them, the 3rd snaps into place. Just look at the picture of the vacuum cleaner and you'll know exactly where to go, no instructions needed. There is a HEPA filter which you can access by flipping the back of the vacuum with a latch, the filter pops out instantly. Fleece filter bags and plastic bags are simply pushed onto the inlet hose. There are two handles; Speed selection and automatic mode (for mains-operated devices such as grinders) and manual mode with a choice of dust extraction (popping noise/automatic filter cleaning) or wet mopping (no popping noise). The negative feedback about "pops", "explosions" and "knocks" during operation is quite funny. First use the 'wet' mode and it won't 'pop'. Second, this is a vacuum cleaner, not a vacuum typically used to safely vacuum up fine wood dust, concrete/pebble dust, drywall dust, etc. All very fine particles with 99% particle capture! The intermittent "flutter" IC is "brilliant", it provides an instantaneous (less than a second) change in pressure throughout the system to clear accumulated dust from the hose, HEPA filter and/or fleece bags . It's very useful! I've used several dusters, most of which had a crank or spring loaded manual filter cleaning mechanism to knock the filter out when it starts losing suction, none of them really worked and you had to stop working to deal with them will. .Knock is also useful when using tools with automatic function. When you're working with a miter saw, grinder, hammer drill, table saw, etc., you won't hear the vacuum turn on. That "explosion" sound lets you know the vacuum is on. Also, it's not that quiet, this vacuum is the quietest industrial vacuum/vacuum I've ever used! After 12 hours of vacuuming wood dust, drywall dust, silica dust along with screws, pieces of wood, pieces of drywall, pieces of concrete, etc., it still works with very little suction loss! It's impressive, period! The dust removal when using the Makita 3amp cord grinder is fantastic! Makita 3/4" to 1" grinder hose is $25 and works great! The vacuum came with three adapters that fit all of my Makita devices. It's just stupid to buy a $9 dishwasher hose to save a few bucks after spending $620 on a vacuum. I am an apprentice carpenter, carpenter, builder and have used a wide variety of equipment over the past 25 years. I have always preferred Makita although their tools/gear from the 90's and earlier were much sturdier but still better than most. Hope this review helps!
