Bike locks are difficult to test without trying to steal or pick the lock. So this is less of a review of the lock's efficiency or security. Blocking frames in general is a compromise in a sense. Note that they are widely available outside of North America, particularly in the Netherlands, and generally meet bike insurance standards. As far as frame locks go, this is by no means low security, but it's still a frame lock when it counts - so it secures the rear wheel to the frame and prevents the rear wheel from spinning. It doesn't offer van-style anti-theft protection unless you use an extra chain or cable. Within these limits. This is a very reliable piece of equipment - you'll probably need an angle grinder to remove it. I have a Simcoe Roadster and have been looking everywhere for one of the "Dutch style" frame locks that are easy to install with solder. . I've been talking to the local shop for a while and haven't made any progress. So I decided to study it myself. It's very good for simcoe. It doesn't look like the most impressive security system, but it's built better than the plastic casing lets on - plastic is only on the outside, and all the insides are very well finished. This version is the "no-key" version, if that matters to you - I prefer the "key-preserved" version a bit, but that doesn't matter. It just means you can actually remove the key once it's unlocked. Super easy to use, super convenient. I would recommend pairing it with a Pro Tectic cable or chain that snaps to it. I bought a cable and it's probably enough, but I think I'd rather buy a chain - it's longer, much more reliable and not that much more expensive. The length would be ok if you had a quick release front wheel, you're probably ok if your front wheel takes some effort to get off. A plug-in cable or chain, together with a frame lock, offers a sufficiently secure installation for most requirements. You can certainly get more secure locks in general, but frame locks are handy in that they're always available since they're mounted on the bike itself. I hope I don't have a chance to report whether or not this was successful in preventing the theft, but I think it's more than enough for my city drivers' needs.
