I applied two thin coats of mortar over two days in my home fireplace where there were small to medium cracks and then after just a week started the fire. As other reviewers have noted, there were a few blisters - about the size of a pea per blister (protruding maybe 1/4 inch). I'm not sure why this is happening. However, the solution seems to do the trick and the bubbles are covered by the ash, so overall I think I'm happy with this product. In terms of quantity, 8 ounces was enough for an insulated home renovation. If your fireplace or other appliance has a lot of cracks or large gaps, I would recommend finding a larger quantity or a different product.
