Regular V-grooves do the job well, but there are plenty of them. This one does a great job. 5 strokes with the Gerber multi-tool blade and it's sharp like new. However, with this sharpener you get a "thorn" with diamond grit. I've never found anything that can handle serrated blades like my Gerber. (I know they're there, it's just the first thing I noticed) I spent 3 minutes on my dull serrated blade and it was "like new" again. Very easy, very fast. The advantage of this device is that both types of blades can be sharpened.
