Review on Signal Flasher Relay Headlight Blinkers by Philip Brianne

Worked for 10 seconds then tried to burn my car

I recently bought some LED bulbs for my 1988 Corvette so I also bought these 2 packs to upgrade my alarm and hook up the flasher relay to the adapt to requirements. I decided to put a relay in front of the lightbulbs. On my machine, the emergency flasher is more accessible, so I started there. It didn't work at first. but that was due to the polarity design which I expected. I switched connections and tried again. Now my fuses have blown and as advertised this relay is completely silent. The silence was eerie, so I got out with my turn signals on and walked around the car to make sure all the headlights were flashing properly. As soon as I got back in the car (until now the headlights had been blinking for a maximum of 10 or 12 seconds) the headlights had stopped blinking and were now solid. I stared at the turn signals in confusion for a few more seconds before realizing I could smell something burning. I looked at the dashboard (where the relay is located) and was alarmed to see smoke! I immediately turned off the alarm, then quickly pulled the relay and threw it out the door and across the driveway. This stopped the smoke, but the stench remained. So I carefully examined the wiring in my car to see if anything was charred, melted, hot, etc. All my cables seemed cool enough and thankfully looking good. I also sniffed my wiring but the smell subsided and even that seemed normal. I got out of the car, went to the relay, took it and sniffed it. He smelled like something was burning - that was clearly the culprit for trying to burn my Corvette down. I let it cool down a bit and made sure it didn't reignite, then threw it in the trash can on the street. Refusing to risk it, I threw away the other one without even taking it out of the box. Other reviews show that many people have had good experiences with this item. I'm happy to hear that for you all. But for me it was almost a disaster. I reinstalled the stock flasher relay and will be using it until I find another way to control my LED bulbs that are not yet installed.
