This product is for single use only - use an Ethernet wall outlet for two devices that will NOT work simultaneously. I use this to unplug my Xbox 360 and laptop from the same port without having to unplug the cables from the wall. I run one ethernet cable from the wall to the splitter, one from the splitter to the laptop, and one from the splitter to the Xbox. The laptop connects while the Xbox is off, and the Xbox connects while the laptop is off or disconnected from the Ethernet cable. This is the only application for which this product is intended. I haven't noticed any loss of speed and I'm glad I no longer have to reach under my desk to switch cables.
