Review on Extech RE300 ExStik ORP Meter by Jason Paredes

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Bought RE300 from TE Dep. .

RE300 purchased from TEDep. and a device with a dry probe was shipped. The device provided inconsistent and unreliable readings. Tadep. refused to take it back (was 45 days after purchase) so they brushed me off with the claim "no return policy" and referred me to the manufacturer to replace it. even more unreliable than the one it replaced. The interchangeable block provides readings everywhere with multiple selections of the same solution. If the sensor is left in the sample, it will read 0 mV after about 3 minutes. I contacted the manufacturer (Frank) again and got the reply "this is interesting" when I explained the results. He redirected me to tech support where I got to voicemail. I called back immediately and the lady who took the call made arrangements to send me another replacement. If the second replacement works, I'll adjust my estimate accordingly. Just got a replacement and it's also totally unreliable. Soak in distilled water (or tap) for 10 minutes, power on, rinse in test solution, wait 1-3 minutes for the reading to stabilize. The reading never stabilizes, and removing the probe, cycling the power cycle, and immersing in the solution gives a different reading than the one immediately before, and it's off by more than 50 MV. The device is made in China and I bet. that the age of a probe that's come this far can have a lot to do with why it's not working. Maybe he's just too old. Now I'm giving the money back. I'm tired of wasting my time. If I shell out $100 for a probe, I expect it to work.

Pros
  • Simulated analog bar graph showing change in ORP readings
Cons
  • not reliable
