Some Limitations/Considerations Before Purchasing

Some LIMITATIONS to consider before purchasing this mount for the InReach Explorer. I assume that this also applies to the SE+ model. I returned the mount due to these limitations.1. The InReach device does not fit into a mount with the carabiner attached. While disappointing, this is not a deal breaker. The mount uses the same "snap" function as the included carabiner, so it must be removed or the device will not fit in the mount. I personally think this is a design oversight - the InReach is a portable device, it would be nice to be able to unmount and go. Now you need to remove it, add a carabiner (if desired) and get started.2. The USB power cord is permanently attached to the bottom of the mount. It's not a deal breaker, but it would be more modular if there was a USB port on the bottom of the mount so the cable could be unplugged when power wasn't needed, or a different cable could be used (as a spare). Length). I don't really need the charging capabilities of the mount as the InReach already has an integrated USB charging port (redundant).3. The instructions that came with the mount (yes, I HAVE read them!) mention that the charging contacts must be dry and not wet or wet when the GPS unit is installed or damage to the unit may result. I use the device for off-road motorcycling, so there is always a chance that the contacts will get wet/dirty in some way. To protect the charging contacts, Garmin supplies a small rubber cap that fits over the contact points on the mount. Once InReach is in place, IT WILL NOT FIT IN THE MOUNT - YOU CANNOT USE THE MOUNT WITH THE RUBBER CAP IN PLACE TO PROTECT THE CHARGING POINTS. Unfortunately, point 3 is crucial. You have a mount for a device that will likely work in harsh environments and in remote areas, but you cannot use the mount in those environments (powered; you could probably use it without the USB cable connected ). I will say that the InReach block fitted perfectly into the mount (without the carabiner and with the protective rubber plug removed) and was held securely enough. If you need something to keep your InReach snug and dry then this mount might suit your needs as otherwise it is a very good mount.
