Review on Proto Pasta CFP11705 Original Carbon Fiber by Micheal Esquivel

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great prints, terrible adhesion and distortion of detail.

Shit sticks. This is the only thread I need to use glue on my steel platform. No problem with everything from PLA to PC blends. But this stuff won't stick to the cleanest bed with a slightly lower Z setting than usual. My Prusa came with a glue stick so it's fine. I used it. He's stuck. The print quality is fantastic, as everyone has said, it's true. You don't have to repeat them. Made 0.5mm thick prints (ribs) that are stiff and usable when I usually have to print 1mm thick PETG to say the same and it won't be as immobile. People say it's fragile, not in my experience. It feels tough even at a thickness of less than 1mm. I didn't break a single detail. The problem is that the CF formula doesn't improve PLA's heat resistance at all. In fact, I've had issues with it that even PLA don't have (apart from liability). I left the prototype in my car for a day (it was 80F outside) and it warped to the shape of the seat. Yes, it's "normal" for a 0.5mm fin, but the 6mm x 6mm rod it attaches to has deformed to the shape of the car seat. It was a shock. nice 2 inch bend in it. Since the prototype is designed for a boat, I don't feel comfortable using it for testing, even if it's just sitting in the sun for a few hours. My main comparison would be to Prieline's PETG/CF blend. that Revain sells. This material should not be used with a steel bed as you will likely damage the bed if you remove it. You have to heat it to 300 degrees so it doesn't warp in the sun. I'm guessing they have a higher CF percentage than Protopasta as it's about 60 degrees hotter than regular PETG when extruded - compared to Protopasta CF which prints at the same temperature as PLA. In the end it's useless for me to use prototype parts but it looks so cool it will be used throughout the house.
