Review on Slicer Shredder Attachment KitchenAid Vegetable by Brian Samaiyar

Fuzzy Blades Won't Cut

This mincer/mincer, like all others, including the KitchAid itself, isn't sharp enough to really chop tough veggies like potatoes and carrots. Disturbing, if at all. Potato peel gets stuck between blade and body. Celery is removed, jam from the first pass. Frozen cheese, maybe yes, but that's the only one. In order for it to work at all you have to press so hard to push the potato (for example) against the spinning blade that the blender needs help to avoid tipping over and I'm worried about breaking the device, not to mention stress at the attachment point between the device and the mixer. As for saving time, right? If I need time to get out the blender, attach the attachment, insert the blade, find the food pusher, I can grate a whole potato with Oxo's nice sharp hand grater. As far as cleaning goes... we can imagine how long it takes to flush the Oxo compared to this unit where I disassemble, pull scraps from the drum's internal chopper, etc. etc. There are cut-resistant kitchen gloves that A grater or mandolin can be used, keep your fingertips away from the coleslaw. I assume there are commercial versions of shredder/slicing drums that are really sharp and get the job done, but I haven't found any yet. I was thinking of putting a tiny file in the chopping drums and really sharpening them, but there are dozens of holes and maybe someone has more important things to do in our limited time on earth.
