Replacement parts are no better than plug and play

I am installing these ball joints on a 2000 Chevy, Cavalier. As I have other work to do with the car I haven't put the levers back on the car yet. I decided to share what I already know about these details. These ball joints come with grease fittings that were not on the factory ball joints. It would be nice if the included grease fitting actually went into the hole on the ball joint. You are not. I don't know if the oilers that came in the boxes had damaged threads or if they were just the wrong size, but they didn't fit. I had to run to my local auto parts store and buy new 1/4-28 grease fittings that fit perfectly. control lever holes. The factory rivet holes were about 0.425 inch (about 7/16 inch). I had to drill them out to .468" (15/32") before the screws that came with the ball joints would fit. This is my first ball joint replacement to be honest. You may need to drill slightly larger holes for the screws. (?) I just find it unusual to have to enlarge the holes for an "original" AC Delco part. They seem to fit me but be aware that alterations may be required upon purchase. One star off for having to buy the oilers myself. Another star deduction is that the rivet holes had to be enlarged. I will give an update when I assemble the car. Update (3/2/2021): Aside from the old factory 18mm slotted nut and new 19mm nut, I had no other issues installing these ball joints. I already threw away the old ball joints, so no comparison, but the cotter pin hole also seemed a bit higher on the frame when I was assembling it. It may be my imagination. It was still low enough to secure the castle nut. The car is assembled and removed from the jack, but has not been driven since installation.

Pros
  • Forged body for durability
Cons
  • Update available
