Versatility and value for money
A custom scale allows me to calibrate this to read directly in nautical miles on my charts. The add memory function summarizes the stages of the route and I write down each one. Scale programming isn't intuitive, so don't throw away instructions. But I only had to do it once. The only downside is that turning both forwards and backwards increases the measurement. It would make more sense to subtract while moving backwards to correct the error.
