I didn't want to leave the tree and shine, but I like the soft, happy light. You need to "expand" the branches of the tree, you can arrange them any way you want, and then "connect" to the base. You can use batteries or connect it with a cable (you'll need a plug or socket that you can connect a USB cable to. The only boring element was the base - it's plain, white, plastic - so we've got it covered it's creative it's super cute and fun i like it hope it lasts we used it every night
