Review on πŸ“¦ NETGEAR ReadyNAS RN212: High-Capacity Diskless Personal Cloud NAS with Desktop & Mobile App by Derrick Bellando

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great NAS and possibly the easiest hardware-related setup in a long time!

Setting up this NAS was probably one of the easiest computer/network related tasks I've ever done. Simply install the drives you need into the included brackets that surround the hard drive, slide them into the bays, and power on. Then follow the simple setup steps via the NETGEARS ReadyCloud website. That's all! If you already have a Netgear account, it's even faster. The drives took about 45-60 minutes to format and play a pair of 3TB WD Red drives. Mainly use this as a PLEX media server and personal data storage device. The NAS's internal webpage allows you to create user accounts that have customizable access to data and folders on the NAS, which you can access from anywhere. I really wish I went with bay 4, but I know that with bay 2 I can just swap and the RAID configuration will back up the master drive along the way. I had size and budget constraints so I opted for 2 compartments. All in all a great NAS for a home network or media users. My ONLY downside is that the Link Aggregation mode advertised doesn't work with my Nighthawk X4S - AC2600 router which is less than 2 years old. It comes with two Cat6e cables, but the link aggregation feature doesn't work on my setup/router. but that's more because I don't have the newest router, I think. In general. Zero regrets!

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
