Quality product works well after a lengthy installation

The Ridgeline 2nd generation electric pop & lock mechanism is well designed and should fit without modification. However, this did not happen with my 2019 Ridgeline. I followed the included instructions carefully and watched a detailed installation video for another 2019 car, but found a severe 3/16" material interference between the Pop & Lock mechanism and the Honda factory manual tailgate latching mechanism. Although there is a slot or notch in the Pop & Lock mount to accommodate the mounting tab on the factory latch assembly, either the tab is too long and/or the cutout is not deep enough for the Pop & Lock mount to sit flush within sits the factory latch assembly. Since I didn't want to loosen the Pop & Lock mount by deepening its cutout as much as 3/16", I removed the factory latch and shortened the mounting tab by 1/8" and used a square file to deepen the cutout in the bracket. 1/16". This allowed the short lip and recessed cutout to be bolted together without material damage. This issue added at least an hour to the installation time. Also, the long, narrow brace holding the electric actuator and linkage did not seat properly of the factory latch because the mounting tabs on the Pop & Lock mount were not positioned correctly to allow the factory mount mold to fall off, I was wondering if I had received the wrong assembly from Pop & Lock but the part number was on the box just the thing was listed for the Ridgeline Once the mechanics were installed I found the instructions for the electrical connections unhelpful I relied more on the comments and photos from another product reviewer on youtube Routing the power cable over the rider's rear inner wheel Arch was pretty basic but it took a lot of searching and patience to complete to find a rubber plug in the cabin floor under the back seat. money on the driver's side. Routing the cable up and into the cab through this connector allowed the cable to run along the inner rocker panel to the driver's panel and out to the fuse panel. Fastening wires with clamps was impractical due to the limited working space and location of the fuse panel. After everything was connected and tested, I put the truck back together and have had a lot of fun with the new tailgate lock ever since. Tomorrow I will be installing a hardlock trunk lid so a liftgate lock was essential for a secure bed. I'm not sure why Honda waited for the 2020 model to fix this power tailgate issue. For 2019 and all previous Ridgeline years, the Pop & Lock product is a good solution.
