Oh well. I've found that I have more control by lifting the end and squeezing the sides with the bread. The problem with this slicer is that my Wüsthof bread knife is slightly longer than the width of this slicer. So if someone pulls back on the blade, it comes out of the lead. In order to keep the knife in the guides, you have to make a lot of short small movements. Better than nothing I think.
