Poor screw drive design

I had two problems with these fasteners and spent a lot of money on this purchase. First, the drive design (the unique 8-point star drive, they call it spider drive) doesn't work very well. It's very easy to undress if the racquet slips at all. The ribs on the drive end of the screw are weak and easily bend or wear out if the bit slips at all. Once this happens, the screw becomes impossible no matter how hard you push the screwdriver into the screw. The similar torx or star drive you see on most other screws of this type is much more durable and less likely to break. The second problem I've encountered is that it's relatively easy to break a screw in wood. Slight tightening often damages the screw. It is designed not to sink easily, so it is easy to remove. I've never experienced that with other screws like this one. I would steer clear of this bolt and look for others that use the typical pinion gear available from most manufacturers (including other models by this manufacturer).

Pros
  • Sturdy design
Cons
  • No automatic
