Paying $14 a month for an XFInity modem/router got on my nerves, especially since I use my own router for the "routing" part of the network and only need the modem. $99 for this modem seemed like a no-brainer! I also bought three Rokus for $30 because you can use them as Xfinity cable boxes by running the Xfinity app. So for about $200 with taxes on the entire shipment, I'm saving $44 a month in my account, which is about a 5 month payback. The account went from $211 to $167. Some things to consider before buying: 1. This is NOT a router. It's just a DOCSIS modem. It has NO wifi. They're likely replacing the Xfinity Gateway, which is a combo modem and wireless router. It's not the same. In addition, you need a router to run your network. Your router connects to the back of this modem.2. Make sure this modem is on your allowed devices list for your account. You can find this in the Xfinity app or on the Xfinity website - log in to your account. If you have a voice (phone), you need a modem with both data and voice, even if you don't use it. it has it If you buy a modem that isn't on this list, Xfinity won't set it up.3. Took me about 90 minutes to call using Comcast. From reading other reviews it seems like the norm is to add your own modem. The modem's MAC address was not accepted by the Comcast system, so I contacted three support people before I got to John, who had authority to add the MAC address to the system. After that everything went smoothly, he installed the modem and we started to work.4. This is NOT a router (thought I'd mention it again). No wifi.5. Internet speed immediately after installation is around 400 MBps. I pay 600 but it ranges from 350-550 depending on who is online in the house so nothing has changed there. Overall I am very happy with this modem. If anything changes, I will update the information. Just wanted to add that my 90 minutes with Comcast was on a Sunday during the coronavirus lockdown. All 4 people I spoke to were helpful, friendly and AMAZING. It's not the Comcast support it was a few years ago. Glory to them all.
