Review on GEARWRENCH 35 Piece 1/4 Inch Drive MicroDriver Set - The Ultimate Toolkit for Precise Projects by Gabriel Tomato

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great set if you have a tool that works with a ratchet

Gearwrench is a division of Apex Tool Group (US HQ) and typically makes quality tools that stay within the budget. Unfortunately, like a few others here, I encountered an incorrectly installed ratchet (and was unable to insert bits) when I first purchased this item. However, due to Revain's return policy, I immediately exchanged it as defective and the next set was perfect. This set is made in Taiwan for Apex. Has a lifetime guarantee. The tool itself is considered precision work and the warranty will be void if frozen bolts/screws are misused. The ratchet seems reliable so far. The larger end (5/16" bit / 1/4" drive) has 72 teeth and the smaller end (1/4" bit) has 60 teeth. Both teeth have enough to be snapped into tight spaces. The bits/adapters stay in place with a fairly good interference fit.The hex sockets attach via a 1/4" adapter which allows the sockets to sit flush with the ratchet which in turn allows for working in tight spaces. Sockets: 5 SAE (9/16 to 5/16 in 1/16" increments) and 5 metric (14, 13, 12, 10, 8mm). Bits: 6 Torx (T50, T45, T40, T30) . , T25, T20), 7 Hex (from 6/16 to 2/16 in increments of 1/16 and 5/32 and 3/32), 3 Phillips (PH3, PH2, PH1), 5 Spline (3/8 , 5/8, 9/32, 7/32, 5/32) and 2 Robertson (Square) (S-3, S-2). The large bits are for the 5/8" end of the ratchet. The dimensions are clearly marked on both the sockets and the bits. The bits I've used so far are perfectly fine for heads. I also have no complaints about the quality of the nozzles. 1/4" bits fit into standard 1/4" holes as they are smooth and do not have a ball lock. The adapter 5/16" for bits has a ball holder at the end that is inserted into the bit (it is smooth on the side that is inserted into the ratchet). Magnet. The bottom of the case (the red part into the photo) is strong enough. Handy numbers to tell you which slot should be in which recess. Tools are not pushed into the case, they are not secured. This makes it easier to insert and remove tools. It also means that the Lid works better. And the lid doesn't have a particularly strong clasp. I wouldn't rely on turning the heavy contents over to open the clasp under gravity and get some sleep. I put a hair tie over my set to make sure that it's safe. There's also a plastic clip that can be inserted into the back of the base (either landscape or landscape) in consideration of the hanging strap. I wouldn't trust the clip as (a) it nu r is flimsy plastic and looks like it will break under load and (b) the lid fails to hold onto the latch as I mentioned. It's actually a pretty decent set of microdrivers, especially if you can snag one for sale.
