I started cycling and wasn't quite ready to wear cycling shoes. I like it when my legs are free, at least for the moment. However, when using pedals without a strap, the pedal would sometimes bounce off me and spin, or my foot would come off the pedal. I decided to try them as a compromise to help me feel better. That helped. They put your foot where it needs to be and help you focus on pedaling. Some reviews say they are too wide. The only issue I had in the beginning was that if you lean the bike too far the clamps tend to fold down and slap. So I adjusted how much I tilt the bike. I get on the bike, feel the pedals, ride and then flip the pedals so they touch the toe clips and I've had no problems. Another thing to watch out for when dismounting is to pull your leg back to get out of the clamp instead of moving it forward. I did it once and almost fell. I haven't done it since then. They are really easy to drive and comfortable. I wasn't sure how they would work but now I would recommend them to anyone who needs to drive but doesn't want to be buckled up and want their feet a little loose.
