Review on SHIMANO CP-FH53 Spoke Guard for 36H, Clear Freehub by Blake Mannasseh

Cracked after only a few weeks

The previous spoke cover on my bike cracked where it connects the spokes so I replaced it with this one. The one that ripped was the original spoke guard that was on the bike when I bought it over 10 years ago. It's not surprising that it ripped after many miles of cycling and I suspect this material has become more brittle over the years. This replacement part appeared to be the same style/quality/size (hard plastic) as the original so I figured I wouldn't have a problem with it for a couple of years. Unfortunately, just like the original, it broke at the spokes after just a few weeks and less than 100 miles. Noticing that it was loose, I noticed that all three places where it connected to the spokes were broken and it was free to spin. I don't know if all three cracked at the same time, or if one cracked and the rest succumbed to failing on only two connection points. I don't think there is anything wrong with the derailleur, the wheel or the size of this guard that is causing this issue - the bike works perfectly and I haven't noticed any difference in my riding lately and this product is perfect for my spokes . . I bought two of these because they were cheap so I'm putting the second one on now (or just leave it and take a chance) but I honestly thought I was going to lose/lose the second one before I needed it because I thought it will be more than 10 years before I need it.

Pros
