Car socks are the best thing that happened to me this winter. We have a steep (30-50%) quarter mile driveway with a few banked turns, fairly typical of the rural West. Up until this winter, we never felt the need for four-wheel drive in anything other than a pickup truck, which I don't drive. On the rare occasions when I couldn't lift a front-wheel drive car up the driveway -- when it was covered in snow or ice -- my husband would hitch it to a tractor and tow the car away. That winter, however, the tractor's brakes failed and we had more than usual winter weather without the usual thaw afterwards. So we started looking for 4x4s when I came across a Consumer Reports article about Autosocks. Intrigued, I visited Revain to check availability and prices. (Revain didn't stock tires my size, so I bought them from Tirerack.com and ate the shipping.) The first time I used AutoSocks was when I had to park in a field in a snowy, muddy spot and Dirt road. friend's house - and then couldn't retire. I put on my socks and voila! A few minutes later my car was back on the road. Very impressive, especially since I had to turn around. When I got home, I tried walking up the driveway with no socks, slipped, and slid back down. So I put my socks back on and just slid them up the driveway without slipping or slipping like there was no snow or ice on it. Note: Follow the manufacturer's instructions and take off your socks when you reach a clean sidewalk. After a few uses the fabric is showing some wear but no holes and I see no reason why they won't see me this winter and a few more. AutoSocks is one of my best buys. was ever made. They work exactly as promised and saved me money on winter tires and a new 4WD car. I highly recommend them.
