The lid is a bad design, but I have an easy fix!
The tin is very sturdy and I like the stylish design. However, the lid pops open or twists sideways every time you step on the pedal to open it, as the pins on the side of the bin are too short to stay in the holes in the lid. I fixed mine by inserting a small screw into the end of one of the studs. This expanded the bolt so that it could no longer pop out. When using this tip, insert the screw side into the hole on the cover first. Works great! Rubbermaid needs to expand their manufacturing process or find a way to route the stem directly through the cap during assembly.
