I have a red/thin card and a green/extra thin card. If you only get one, you'll get red/good. This is the most helpful. You can sharpen a blade in good condition in about 30 passes and a blade in very poor condition in about 80 passes. Removes the right amount of metal. If the blade is really in bad shape, you can take off enough to make it normal again. But it's not so rough that a bad pass or two ruins the edge. It would be incredibly difficult to sharpen a knife with just this card. I would only buy a green card if you already have coarser stones.
