After more than ten years I have decided to replace the roller brush on my Oreck XL. I've been using the same vacuum for my home for over a decade and also as a housekeeper for a while (why bring a 20lb vacuum with me when I can carry my 8lb?). It's a lot cheaper to replace parts and service these vacuum cleaners than to buy a new one. So. I am very satisfied with the roller brush. This is especially important in the household than with dogs and cats. belt against it. sucks, and not in a good way. They're a lot cheaper than before and appear a little larger. I've had to replace 3 belts. And that's after literally not changing the belts on this vacuum for up to 2 years. The straps are probably perfect for the newer XLs but not mine (I have a gray XL with no fairing features. It looks and was probably originally made for commercial use). If you have an XL like me (older), watch your straps. They are flimsy and will break if you accidentally suck up an object that stops the roller. They also lack texture, they don't cling to the parts the brushroll spins on, and they don't slip, which is very annoying. So if you go to an Oreck dealer you might be interested to know if they have any old belts in stock. The vacuum itself still works great except for the belt issue.
